THIS IS NOT RETRO SAYS…
The Selecter were welcomed back like old friends at the Brighton ‘Made In Britain’ show which saw the band rattle through a mostly high-energy set. Of the original band it’s only frontwoman Pauline Black and singer/toaster Gaps Hendrickson – both suited and booted for the occasion – still flying the flag, but the duo were ably backed by a great band who injected each song with a shot of the authentic ska sound that defined the 2-Tone era.

Amid much onstage banter – focussed mostly on current social and political issues – the band gave the enthusiastic Brighton crowd exactly what they wanted; a top-notch performance of all The Selecter’s best known, and most loved tracks alongside a few musical surprises, the most effective of which was a moving rendition of Amy Winehouse’s ‘Back To Black’.

WE’LL GIVE IT…
